Abattoir Bio Activator

FBF Organics' Bio Activator X256 has proven to be very successful in the bioremediation of Abattoirs wastewater ponds. Its' most obvious benefits have been to remove odours and improve metabolisation of the indigenous microbes in the pond and in turn reducing sludge and fatty layers formed on the surface water.

Application to a chicken abattoir effluent treatment plant
The Bio Activator was applied to the primary effluent treatment pond at a poultry abattoir a couple of months after the pond system had been commissioned. There was a thick layer of fat and feathers on the primary pond and a strong odour emanating from the pond. Analysis of samples collected at the outlet of the final pond showed that COD (settled) decreased from an initial value of 92 mg/l to 78 mg/l after six months. Similarly, COD (filtered) decreased from 86 mg/l to 70 mg/l. Ammonia concentrations also decreased dramatically from 37.1 mg N/l to 4.3 mg N/l. The foul odours emanating from the primary pond virtually disappeared after two weeks and the layer of fat reduced to about 30% of the surface area of the primary pond after 6 weeks.
